New Phoenix Chief of Police Jeri Williams Sworn In on October 28
Jeri Williams, the City of Phoenix’s new police chief was officially sworn-in at Phoenix Convention Center on October 28. Williams replaces the now-retired Chief Joe Yahner, who was honored at reception earlier that day.
Williams’ hire makes her the first female chief of police for the City of Phoenix.
Williams has intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the Phoenix Police department. She rose through the ranks to eventually become Assistant Chief of the Southern Division.
She left the Valley in 2011 to become police chief in Oxnard, CA.
Jeri Williams is also married to Cody Williams, a current Justice of the Peace in the South Mountain Justice Court. Interestingly enough, her husband officiated the ceremony.
With all of the attention being paid to police brutality, we applaud the City of Phoenix for hiring Williams as its top cop. We are confident that she will do an excellent job at the helm and we look forward to talking with her in the near future about her strategies for our city.
