Beating Victim, Representatives Speak Out During June 7 News Conference

Although Robert Johnson was too emotional to say much during the June 7 news conference at New Beginnings Christian Church in Mesa, the message stemming from his attorney and his many community supporters is loud and clear … “this police culture has to change!”

Attorney Benjamin Taylor ensures that he, pastor Andre Miller and attorney Joel Robbins are doing everything possible to get Johnson the justice he deserves. Taylor said he is considering filing a notice of claim which is required before suing a government entity such as the City of Mesa and/or the Mesa Police Department.
Since the May 23 incident, the police officers involved have been released on paid leave.
Police Chief Ramon Batista, still fairly new and having held his position for less than a year, knows that these acts are unacceptable. He wants to work towards change and ending this Mesa police culture.
