Honey Bear’s BBQ on Central Avenue in Phoenix Now Closed; Van Buren Location Still Open

For Arizonans who have not heard, Honey Bear’s BBQ closed the doors for its Central Avenue and Thomas Road location in Phoenix on March 1. Little Miss BBQ will move into the Central Avenue location later this year.

Honey Bear’s BBQ on Central was a Black-Owned Business and a Valley institution serving Tennessee Style BBQ. Honey Bear’s has been serving Phoenix area customers since 1986 and was also one of my late father’s favorite all-time restaurants! Honey Bear’s BBQ is Black History in Phoenix!

I remember falling in love with Honey Bear’s BBQ more than 20 years ago while on a media tour of the Arizona Diamondbacks brand new stadium in downtown Phoenix. The Diamondbacks served Honey Bear’s BBQ as a catered lunch to all of the journalists and that was some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had in my life! Love that sauce!
