Hi all, I am looking for a church with a traditional, soul, gospel choir in the greater Phoenix area. Any suggestions?
P.S. I am a middle aged white woman and my hubby might come along too.
I hope to find an inclusive church with strong soul music.
Thanks
Sheryl
Hi Sherryl,
In case you haven’t found a church by now, I’d like to suggest Fountain of Life House of Worship in Phx, and Antioch Church of God in Peoria. I had that same challenge of finding a church that encompassed all including soul music.
I hope that this help, or that you’ve found one already that feeds your spiritual soul.
Hi Sherryl,
If you are still looking, visiting or evaluating, I recommend you come by Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at 1401 E Jefferson St., Phoenix
The choir and music ministry is top of the charts. They will sing you happy, bless your soul and lead you into praise and worship. By the time they get finished, you will be so ready for the ministry of the Word.
Blessings to you.

I love southern gospel music. Looking for others who play and sing who might Invite me to join their group.
Hello,
I’m a white older male of Portuguese, Hawaiian, and Hungarian decent.
My dear Hungarian mother “Rita Roberts”, was a famous singer, mostly blues, during the 1930’s and 1940’s, and sang with the Glen Miller and Russ Morgan Bands, while also being the lead vocalist on a top shelf radio station in Detroit, Michigan.
I was partly raised as a toddler, by a lovely black nanny named “Mable”. She was the lead vocalist in a “Black Baptist Gospel Choir” in Detroit, MI. She use to sing black gospel music to me, and play gospel records for me. I was her favorite out of three children, and she always called me “Her Baby”. My mother, father and I, as a toddler
went to her “Black Baptist Church on many Sundays, where we were the only people of white skin color.
We were always graciously accepted through fellowship.
“MY Dear Mable”, touched my heart, soul and spirit so deeply and we were spiritually connected for life. Her gospel music was embedded in me, and I remember every detail about her, even though I was just a toddler at the time. (Love You Mable) “My Second Mom”.
Can anyone recommend me a “Black Church With A Black Gospel Choir”, in
the valley where I would be welcome, to regain that beautiful inner spirit of black gospel music.
Blessing To All,
James Dutra

Hi CeCe,
There is a great non-denominational church called The Carpenter’s House of Worship in the West Valley in Avondale. Very sound teaching, friendly congregation, awesome Pastor’s and the praise and worship is fantastic. It’s not very close to Chandler, but it’s worth the commute!

Hi am looking for a church in the phoenix area. one who has service on Saturdays and accepting to the gay community.
From Detroit looking for a
Non-denomination church
From arkansas looking for a black non-denominational church.
Dear Reverends, Pastors & Members of the Black Church-
Today I finished painting a Black Lives Matter Mural in central Phoenix, Arizona.
A friend of mine came over & asked WHY a man like myself ,white & gay, would be so supportive of the BLM movement? Black Americans as a whole are very homophobic and anti gay? He asked why I should continue to support equal rights for Black Americans when they themselves are judging condeming & oppressing an entire group of people based on something they cannot change? It is paradoxical and counterintuitive to their own movement. He was spot on.
The blatant homophobia within the Black community is contradictory given the fact that they themselves are oppressed in society.
After thinking about it I’ve decided until the inherent homophobia stops within the Black community, I’ll no longer support the BLM movement
Why should I continue to back Black Americans when they don’t have my back & can’t even accept me for who and what I am?
If you want support for your movement, you need to clean up your own backyard first. You can’t ask for support from the very people that you marginalize & discriminate against.
If you don’t stop preaching the anti gay rhetoric, karma will make sure you never get the equal rights you feel you’re so deserving of.
Practice what you preach,
Walk the talk,
and remember
Black & GAY Lives Matter
You got it mixed up, I love all people no matter if they are gay or not. The problem is I cannot support your choice to be gay because you and most gay people claim you were born that way. My understanding is that God created man and woman for each other. He programmed the man to be attracted to the woman and the woman to be attracted to the man. In most species the male is attracted to the female and that wasn’t by mistake. So let me ask you a question did God make a mistake when he made you? According to most who are gay their claim is that you were born attracted to the same sex which would mean God’s programming when it came to you was an error. But wait God wouldn’t have waited until you were born and then all of a sudden mess up your programming to be like all the other men he made that are attracted to a woman. What makes you special? Don’t lie on God, you were not born that way, you made a choice which God did not have anything to do with. On the other hand I was born black, no choice about it, so for another race to hate me because of that is wrong but I’m not blaming God or another person. We will all be judged for our choices but I wish gay people would stop lying on God because you were not born gay, you chose to be gay, but regardless of who you are I STILL love you, just don’t expect me to support your choice which would mean God messed up.
Well spoken. Amen
Thank God for google! I just moved to AZ in October 2020. I came from Louisiana. I did not expect the culture shock when I got here. These last months have been challenging. My husband and I just moved to Litchfield Park from Washington State. I was raised COGIC and have also attended non-denominational churches. Any thoughts on a progressive church without all of the politics and religiosity? Looking for a Pastor that can teach the Word (not holler) and a great choir would help.

What black churches are in the East Valley? Hell!
I live in Fountain Hills and looking for a TRUE Bible based church. Worshippers and the word of God being lived. Love and working within the community . One that teaches on being baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Fasting and praying, One that teaches about the end times and being rapture ready. One that’s not afraid to embrace cultures of all kinds. We’re in the last day’s and it’s too late in the day for watered down and sugar coated messages. There’s a body of believer’s that I’d love to connect with. If that’s your church please let me know. I’m having The hardest time and staying home is not good!

Hello to the PHXSoul family. I moved here from the Chicago area over 8 years ago. I am currently looking for a primarily black church to attend. I saw the post about a church in Avondale. I live in the Peoria area.
I stopped attending church and soured on pastors (black and white) during the Trump administration. Especially the so-called, popular ones in the national spotlight. I would like to start attending again. So any help I can get would be appreciated.
Thank you.
There are so many but they are traditional…remember blacks are not progressive here they are more assimilated to “fit in” this regional mindset of Arizona and has lost the sense of collectivism but they are all about individualism. And many blacks that are here are mostly from Caribbean islands or Africa so they don’t know the true USA Black Native American historical cultural. Here are some churches and blessings:
Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church
Be Community (Maricopa, AZ)
The Word Church
Faith Christian Center
South Mountain Baptist Church
Fountain of Life House of Worship
Effective Word Church
