Strong TIES Summer Camps Available in Tempe for Teenagers in July 2024
The Strong TIES organization offers Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math programs for underrepresented youth in Arizona.
Strong TIES is offering two summer camps for your STEAM-minded sons and daughters this July.
SLINGSHOT CHALLENGE IN THE BOX
July 8 – 11, 2024 | 9:30AM – 4:00PM
Location: ASU West Valley in Glendale
National Geographic Slingshot Challenge in the Box Summer Camp: A four-days intensive and collaborative camp focused on video creation supported by data-driven evidence. Students will learn Design Thinking, SDGs, AI literacy, Data Science, storytelling, video production, and learn about National Geographic Explorers. The goal is to empower students to craft compelling Slingshot Challenge entries to address pressing social environmental issues affecting air quality, water, nature, climate, waste among other sustainability issues.
Slingshot Challenge is a National Geographic and On Semi Foundation sponsored event. This year’s premier partner is ASU West Valley campus

STEAM IN THE GAME SUMMER CAMP
July 12, 2024 | 9AM – 4PM (AZ TIME)
State Farm Marina Heights Campus in Tempe
This event introduces students to game design and development and Design Thinking using the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a basis for creating games for societal good. As an introduction to coding, all student participants will gain Python coding instructions for creating a simple game and for learning to solve logical problems. This will follow students having an opportunity to take classes: Intro. to Game Design & Animation and Intro. to Visual Effects (VXF).
Students (ages 13-18 years old) are welcome to participate.
Application deadline is June 30, 2024.
STEAM in the Game is a sponsored event of State Farm, National Geographic, On Semi Foundation and APS. STEAM in the Game premier community partner is Boys and Girls Club of the Valley.
