2022 Black History Mural Locations in the Phoenix Area
In an effort to raise awareness about the many contributions that Black inventors, scientists, activists, athletes, artists and musicians have made throughout the world, Gizette Knight, founded the Black History Mural project in Phoenix in February 2021.
This year in 2022, Knight is leading the effort to have 28 new murals created in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Knight, the Phoenix Suns and other community organizations are hosting a Black History Mural Project Kickoff event at Footprint Center in Phoenix on February 1 to start the unveiling of the 28 murals that will honor Black historical figures.
Attendees at the kickoff will see the new Black History Mural that was painted for the Phoenix Suns.
“This project is important to me because it is multifaceted,” said Knight. “It unites different communities, it’s educational, it’s artistic and my favorite, it gives our people and people of color a sense of value.
“Carter G Woodson said it best, ‘Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history.’ “
